The Anthropology Museum

The only educational excursion on my trip: the museum in Vancouver where we saw many objects made of wood. Feasting bowls (top) are used to hold beans, seal meat, or any other type of eatable that is required for mass consumption. Totem poles are used to tell the story of a family's lineage or to commemorate an important event within the community. They can be door posts or gates, indoor or outdoor. Totem poles are meant to deteriorate so that each new generation keeps the story up to date by creating a new one. Because of this, there are very few totems more than a hundred years old or so.

And so ends my Alaskan adventure. Keep reading if you've never seen my Israel blog, etc.
until next time....
